Storyline:
“Someday I’ll get you out of here,” promises 16-year-old Janna (Gruschenka Stevens) and leaves her newborn with her mother. Little Lukas lives in her musty pet shop for five years. At least he learns over time to imitate all the bird calls. When Janna finally takes him in, it is mainly her friend Janosch (Martin Feifel) who looks after Lukas. Although the freaky guy smokes pot and gambles away the household money, he lets Lukas feel genuine affection and gives him new courage to face life. When his idolised surrogate father ends up in jail, Lukas’ little world comes crashing down…Over a period of eight years, director Franziska Buch follows the fate of the boy. Her heartfelt drama about an unusual father-son relationship with a great cast won the Max Ophüls Prize in 2000.
