Although Joe uses the money to pay off some of his father’s debts and to replace his mother’s records that his father smashed in a fit of temper, Joe gets no thanks.

His athletic father labored to stamp out stereotypical Jewish characteristics he perceived in his son, to keep the family’s many secrets, as most relatives fought in World War II, and later were hauled off to labor and death camps by the Gestapo. He doesn’t like it but when his new girlfriend starts to see what he does as cool he goes into it. But at the same time the police start to suspect him to be the terrorist who blows up telephone booths around Copenhagen.
