Storyline:
Paulo, a young pianist, meets Ilir, a bartender and bass guitar player originally from Albania. They become lovers. Confronted by his girlfriend Anka, Paulo finds himself out on the street. Despite Ilir’s misgivings, Paulo moves in with him. One day, when Paulo promises that he will love Ilir for the rest of his life, Ilir leaves the city and doesn’t return. A few days later, Paulo finds out that Ilir is in jail, and their relationship faces unexpected challenges.
Piotr Majdrowicz’s film The Misunderstanding of 1978 presents the story of a young photographer in love with an athlete whose pictures he performs. Compulsory heterosexuality has turned out to be a barrier to homosexual fulfillment and as such has become a sign of repressive and alienating PRL.

This is quite simply a soft-core, gay flic masquerading as a romance. The plot, if one can call a boy meets boy falls in love, a full-blown plot, is minimal and most of the running time is taken up with slow-mo views of a masseur at work. There is full male nudity, some very nice bods plus some very ordinary ones and one scene of implied (quite graphically but gently) sex but nothing hardcore at all. It’s titillating in the extreme but the situations and especially the position of the main characters (the masseur and the neophyte who’s just come out) seem realistic. Production values are minimal and low budget, volume levels and sound mix levels vary constantly but one doesn’t watch this for the pungent dialogue or deep insights. It is what it is, a relaxing, somewhat boring, soft-core gay flic.
Gingers. Redheads. Fire crotches… This film collects samples of their testimonials and their body hair, skin and sperm. It is about being different genetically, about gay gingers, doubly in a minority, from Ireland to Israel to Brazil. A film made especially for ginger lovers.
An artistic, action-packed pre-condom classic in which a bunch of big dicked, smooth, college-aged, lanky boys study each other’s anatomy more than textbooks. A cutesy narrator frames the vignettes, but with a soundtrack featuring the likes of Pink Floyd (unlicensed, to be sure), trippiness is more the order of the day.
