Storyline:

In Curuguazu, located in the Argentinian countryside, seventeen year-old Daniel Montero has been raised by his grandmother for three years since the death of his parents in a car accident. Daniel has a boring life, working in a poultry processing plant and meeting his friends in the square to make small talk. He saves some money from his salary and buys an old television, where he watches late night porn shows of Sabrina Love. Daniel wins a contest to spend one night with Sabina Love in Buenos Aires. However, he does not have the 50 pesos to pay for the bus ticket and hitchhikes along 500 kilometers with truck drivers to the city. He is robbed on the road but arrives in Buenos Aires on Saturday morning, but the television postpones his meeting with Sabrina Love to Monday. Without any money, he visits his older brother Enrique who left his hometown many years ago to study agronomy and does not know that his parents are deceased. Daniel discovers many truths during his brief stay.

Storyline:

It was apparently very hard for Laurent Achard to archive his strange cinematographic new project : almost ten years have passed since his last movie “Plus qu’hier, moins que demain”, released in 1998. And when you see “Le dernier des fous”, it’s not really hard to understand why it took so much time to convinced a producer to put some money in the project : if its story is quite classic for a french “film d’auteur”, its style is so arid (there is no music, but only sour, experimental, distorted and natural noises ; most of the time, the frame stay still, and the sequences could be very long, as if time stops for minutes, etc.), that it’s certainly almost as difficult to watch than it was to make.

Storyline:

Heroes Like Us presents as heroes ordinary teenagers and young East German adults, who in Thomas Brussig’s (the novel and screenplay author) story, caused the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Our young hero falls in love, from an early age, with a girl whose family is not in good standing with the ruling Communist party. Our hero’s father, however, is a member of the “Stasi”, the secret state police. The father not only hinders his son’s relationship with the girl, but he arranges for his son, after finishing school, to become a Stasi spy himself. The absurdities of everyday life in the former German “Democratic” Republic are comically (sometimes tragically) are exposed throughout the film.
