Yasuo (Hiroshi Abe) grew up as an orphan. He married a woman he loved and they had a son Akira (later played by Takumi Kitamura). Yasuo’s life seemed great at the time, but his life totally changed after his wife died in accident. Since that time, Yasuo, who never experienced parents’ love himself, has to raise his son Akira alone. Based on novel “Tonbi” by Kiyoshi Shigematsu (published October 30, 2008 by Kadokawa Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd.).
Very real film! You will want to watch it again and again. There is laughter and tears. An emotionally beautiful film!
The father is a colorful character. He is a prankster, headstrong, attentive and caring, hardworking, valiant, self-sacrificing and loving. Fate, however, was not kind to him from his earliest childhood and so throughout his life. His views on life diverge from those of Akira – his son, leading to many emotional moments for both of them.
Both will grow in their relationship with each other guided by their love.
A film with a strong emotional charge similar to “Bicycle Thieves”.
