Squatterpunk 2007
Iskwaterpangk (original title)
Not Rated | 1h 19min | Documentary | 8 June 2010 (USA)
Plot:
Philippine underground filmmaker Khavn directed this purposefully rough and tumble portrait of life along the margins in Manila. Hapon is an eight year old boy living in a shantytown in the city’s poorest neighborhood. Despite the grinding poverty around him, Hapon seems to enjoy his life as he and his friends run free through the tumble down shacks they call home and play in the garbage-strewn streets. Hapon and his pals seem largely unconcerned with their future (or even entirely aware if they’ll ever have one) as they live for the moment in a place largely governed by misery. Featuring a pounding score by Philippine punk band the Broacks, Squatterpunk was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.

1h 40min | Drama | 27 July 2011 (Belgium)
Storyline:
After the Great War, traumatized Yser front hero Casimir Van De Velde returns home. He’s not amused to see his bitchy sister Coralie turned it into a virtual orphanage and home for other juvenile strays while their father, an even worse traumatized sniper but now utter lush, has to be chained in a barn. Yet Casimir soon takes to the kids and grows utterly protective of the irregular commune, which displeases the municipal authorities, who want the minors placed in official care and the land used for a project of the mayor’s business ally. French colonial cavalry veteran Latiff was hired into a band of ruffians to chase them, but decides to join instead and fight off the fiends.
On a tropical island vacation, a young boy’s friendship with a playful and friendly dolphin helps him find the courage to get back in the water after the sudden loss of his mother.
For generations, there have been all kinds of wild rumors surrounding gangster Al Capone’s hidden fortune and the mysterious amusement park he built. When three kids sneak into the rundown park on the hunt for Capone’s loot, the attractions come to life and take the kids on a wild and dangerous ride beyond all imagination. Now to survive the night, they must team up with a friendly sea witch, find a secret underground ride and take on an evil mermaid, bloodthirsty pirates, a fire-breathing dragon and an armada of monsters.
