Plaza Catedral 2021
1h 34m | Drama, Thriller | 9 December 2021 (Panama)
Storyline:
The 42-year-old Alicia is a grief-stricken woman, a grief that has caused her to be estranged from society. Her world is turned upside down when a 14-year-old boy who looks after people’s cars, stumbles into her house, bleeding.
User review:
One of the best low-budget flicks in a long time.
Circumstances make a mid-aged divorced woman cross paths with a young teen boy in a dangerous city. Two very different lives in two different but adjacent worlds, both in pain. There is suspense, some violence but not emphasized, and tragedies. The superficial story is somewhat cliché, but not the characters; and as their human details are shown, they make the story feel real, relatable.
No karate kicks, no fast moving vehicles or slow moving rain of bullets; only very good writing and direction makes the story very involving. I am very glad I picked this over so much “fantastic” stuff.

Oh, sorry for that. Download link added and thank you for your notice.
This is a heartfelt and tragic movie, but much more tragic is the heartbreaking fact that Da Casta was shot to death shortly before the movie was published.
“He was shot getting out of a taxi at midnight in a neighborhood that wasn’t his,” Benaim said. “It was really shocking and horrible and just sad. In Latin America, kids get shot like that very, very frequently. Kids exactly like him. The numbers are so big, you become numb to it and you think it’s normal. But it’s not normal for a kid to be shot and killed. The difference is that we knew him.”
In a strange way, this tragedy is a case of life imitating art. Just as Alicia comes to know Chief, audiences have come to know De Casta.

Wow –Holy crap, I still am recovering from being triggered by your comments. Franz-Josef, you said nothing wrong, It’s just the sad truth that kids get murdered everyday in Latin America… a fact that hurts.
Franz-Josef — there is absolutely no way you missed the movie: Voces inocentes. I was absolutely horrified when those kids got shot at point blank range. That movie left me more un-nerved than most Horror films.
Thanks for your take on Plaza Catedral — I know most times you wonder if anyone is actually going to read your comments, 🙂
En México 🇲🇽 también son asesinados 😥

Thanks for the info and the link. So sad. It reminds me of the little boy who had the title role in the classic Brazilian docu-drama PIXOTE – a similar all too tragic fate.
Both the movie and the doc that followed are here.
