User review:
I’m always scouring the internet for the next great coming-of-age and I found it with The End of the Holiday. At times, it reminded me a little of Kes from its depiction of childhood loneliness and cruelty (birds) in the working class. And it even shares the same setting, with heaps of coal and ash of this miner town smothering the background of the most idyllic of scenes. Grave reminders of what’s to come
Despite these shared similarities, The End… has its own personal growing pains. From learning about the faults of our parents to discovering real death for the first time, it handles its subjects with a rare sensitivity, without a need to fall back on sentimentality. This same sentimentality and nostalgia is too easy for a story as honest as this one. I see so much of my life here, and I imagine that you will too.
