Excellent sequel to Eloy de la Iglesia’s “El Pico,” the former film being more of a straight up drug movie..This epic sequel is more of a crime film, focusing mainly on what the group of young junkies do, to support their heroin habits. The director and his young leading man, Jose Luis Manzano, became real heroin addicts while they created these realistic and brutal crime films. This is also the film where Jose Manzano shows his acting abilities. His performance in this is astounding, in a role that required him to recreate the suffering of someone in prison and addicted to drugs. His onscreen suffering is unnervingly real. Manzano died a few years later, as did many of the young criminals that acted in these Spanish and Mexican “JD” films..
