Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann 1994
30m | Documentary, Short | 4 March 1994 (USA)
Storyline:
An intimate portrait of the photographer and the complex, enigmatic pictures she takes of her children.
User review:
Sally Mann, a wonderful photographer and a wonderful artist with a strong sense of personal and social values, is willing to stand up for what she believes, what she does, and who she is. The only question is has she harmed her children by making them the subject of a continuing photographic study? No. I think not. If anything, she has passed along to her children a stronger sense of values than she would have had she chosen to take a safer approach, the approach most of us would have taken. This documentary is fair, in that it gives voice to opposing sides, but really gives Sally Mann an opportunity to say what she feels. Well done.

RIP to Emmett Mann, who took his own life several years ago.
It is really sad that puritanical society confuses what is art with something that is far from what is intended.
The art world self censors so that any subject under 18 that is not clothed don’t exist? Therefore the innocent beauty of young human form is depreciated
This was really good. The whole family was quite articulate in expressing their feelings. Of course I am drawn to the naked pictures, and I don’t feel that it is wrong that I am. I read Sally’s book a few years ago, which covers a lot of other things, and was very interesting, but seeing and hearing her was better than a book can be. I feel that I learned much more about her from this well done video.
