Black Island is very simply a coming of age story about an adolescent male whose life circumstances begin spinning wildly out of control after the death of his grandmother. As a plot device, the student-teacher relationship is exploited to all levels of indecency; but while this might attract some curiosity at the outset, it fails to keep for lack of anything more substantive until….
