A girl spends summer break with grandmother and deals with her crush.
Namely, this is their story, seen through her eyes. The story of “the meeting of Tom Sawyer and Alice in Wonderland who walk on the edge and do everything that is not allowed”, based on the story of Olja Savičević-Ivančević from the collection “Laugh the dog”. Wonderland here is the world of adults to which the path leads through puberty. Mirković’s “Alice” is at the very end of a carefree childhood, one step away from puberty. Balavica spends the summer with her grandmother ( Slavica Jukić ) on the sea, recognizable views of Dalmatian “what-with-yourself-during-the-day” leisure and characters unaware that these are their best years. Her parents, on the other hand, are parting outside the frame.
“Let the child grow until you take care of it ,” says the grandmother to the mother ( Nera Stipičević)voice, but not stature) who comforts Balavica over the phone with the words “How many children would be happy if they could be at sea for two months?”. On the other hand, “Tom” puberty is already going through intensively, which includes sexual initiation with peers and (or) older girls. “Baby, you’re 11, I’m 15, you’re nice to me, she gave it to me, three times already,” Zane, who is more knowledgeable, tells Balavica. With the help of an impressive, excellently chosen young actress, Mirković captures the emergence of previously unknown pre-adolescent feelings in the film.
