Storyline:

“Abe” is a 12-year-old half Israeli and half Palestinian kid from Brooklyn driven by his passion for food, who has never had a dinner without a family fight. Abe escapes from a stupid summer cooking camp and is mentored by the Afro Brazilian Chef “Chico”, who specializes in serving fusion food at pop up food fairs. One side of the family prefers to call him “Avraham” (in Hebrew), the other side “Ibrahim” (in Arab), while his agnostic atheist parents call him “Abraham”, in English. But he prefers Abe, just Abe.

User review:

This movie brings different subjects to the public. It is not only about food, but the relationship Abe has with it and his family, the feelings he hides and how food has changed his life. The script is well written and Fernando did a great job directing it. Furthermore, I loved the selection of the actors such as Noah Schnapp and Mark Margolis.

I love Noah Schnapp in “Stranger Things”, he’s an awesome young actor, so I was looking forward to seeing “Abe”, in which he has the title role; it’s not a bad movie but it fits more the ’80 than today’s concerns; he has very little to do except cook, and clean and cook some more; the adult parts take too much space, bickering in stereotype roles of Jewish versus Muslim faiths; they both have a point but what about ABE, who seems much more evolved than his family and has a passion for food that should have been better developed; the one good thing s that Abe finds a mentor who is a legend in his town, who takes Abe under his wing; it’s a feel good story but too many distractions (family life) and not much story telling…it left me disappointed and I hope Noah finds a better role to showcase his awesome acting skills.
