Storyline:
Elias (14) feels attracted to his new neighbour Alexander (14). Soon he realizes that he’s truly in love for the first time. The interactions with his friends and family bring more questions than answers. Confused by his burgeoning feelings, Elias tries to sort out his inner chaos to prove that he is worth Alexander’s heart.

Belgium was one of the first countries to abolish the horrible homophobic laws and introduce more inclusivity in its society in the 20th century. Same-sex marriages there were legalized over 20 years ago. So why does Elias, a 13-year-old Belgian boy, have to suffer when he comes to realization he is in love for the first time, with a boy, Alexander, his new neighbor from Brussels? We might well say there’s no need to suffer, however, we feel for him so much. Little by little, we understand his fears and apprehensions by watching this subtle yet optimistic picture by Anthony Schatteman, so full of love, sincerity and light.

Does someone understand and can explain to me: why is Alexander refusing Elias that night, when Elias came to Alexander’s house? I didn’t understand the situation.

After the initial first kiss Elias did smile but then had guilty feelings after which you could see in the conversation with his mother. Then while attending the get together by the pool Alex came late and asked Elias, “why didn’t you wait for me?” Elias did not answer. Alex left the get together without even saying a word to Elias. Later, the same night while sleeping next to Valerie, Elias came to his senses and rode his bike to Alex’s house to apologize but Alex was still too upset with Elias’s hot and cold behavior.

But to be honest: This is pure Utopia! Our society, schools, peer groups, families and neighborhoods are not yet ready for – if they will ever be!
Agree that this is a good movie and it is hard not to compare it to Close. But in many ways the topic was different and we had a happy ending in a movie with a gay theme, rather than a tragic one. Apart from the relationship between the two boys the general acceptance by those around them and the pivotal role of grandfather were all heartwarming. I thought the acting of the two boys was great and certainly similar to those two in Close. Thats what made them comparable. Interesting to see if any of them go on in the future.

Yes the two boys are not only very attractive but their acting was very professional and them playing a “gay couple” is very suspensive…

I loved this movie so much I cried so many times during this movie. Elias and Alex are so adorable. Ive already watched this movie like 5 times already.

I had the chance to see the film at the premiere in Berlin, please support the Cast and Crew. It is such a lovely film. Go the the Cinema, the film starts in about 4 weeks in Germany.
Yes, here our nordic country also was premiere in (exlusive art movie theatre) few months ago – at free of charge. Free tickets can get at website.
And then, nobody ever to know entire movie. Same thing was a Close-movie, still at this day, never came at any format. One show at little movie theatre and that’s it.
So if these wonderful european movie makers want some money, PLEASE make that possible some way!

What a wonderful movie. I share all of your opinions. The cutest scene for me is, when they get really close for the first time, happening in Paris. Alexander introduces Elias to his uncle in french “C ‘est Elias, mon petit copain” ( this is Elias, my boyfriend) which Elias seemingly does’nt understand at first. (53:10): Later on Elias kisses the surprised Alexander, telling him “being your petit copain”. (56:30) Just sooo absolutely cute
