Storyline:
Alan Duckworth (known as ‘Quack Quack’ to his friends) is a socially awkward fourteen-year-old who is obsessed with cricket and Ann Lawton, a girl in his class. Alan daydreams throughout his day, showing up late for school and making little academic progress. He becomes friends with the groundsman Tommy, whom he sees as some sort of war hero. Alan often follows Tommy around, telling him how Tommy helped to win the war, while making predictions about what the post-war world will be like. Among other things, Alan predicts that there will be no more wars, everyone will speak Esperanto and everyone, regardless of race or creed, will have a Teasmade.
User review:
1948. 14-year-old Alan Duckworth dreams of playing cricket for England and of kissing Ann Lawton, a classmate. She is oblivious to his infatuation and only has eyes for Geoffrey, the class heartthrob. It seems Alan’s dreams will forever be dashed but then fate intervenes.
A sweet, funny coming-of-age film. Solid, entertaining plot and engaging characters and heaps of nostalgia make for a great movie. You can’t watch this without thinking of your own school days and relating to Alan’s priorities and predicament.
It’s not just about the kids: the adults’ sub-plots are very entertaining too. These also bring up some interesting themes.
Solid performances from the (largely) young cast.

Hey, I’ve been looking for videos of The Abandoned – The Nobody Children of Camanducaia (Los Abandonados – Die Niemandskinder von Camanducaia), but I can’t find them online. Could you tell me how you found them?

It’s made from an old TV recording – maybe all that’s left of this…!
