Storyline:
Antón travels to his grandparents’ village to receive his first communion. There, while celebrating this special day with his family, a new way of seeing the world around him begins to take shape within him, leading to an experience that will forever mark the course of his life, as an individual, as a cousin, and as a child of God.

“Cousin” is a tender and incisive dive into the complex intersection of innocence, religion, and queer awakening. The film uses the solemnity of Antón’s First Communion in his grandparents’ village as the setting for a defining experience. The protagonist’s journey is that of a queer child who, in a moment of rigid religious and familial conformity, has the course of his individual life and identity forever altered. The short film celebrates the beauty and fragility of this precocious blossoming, showing that the sense of being different (queerness) is not a late choice, but an essence that erupts, even in the most controlled environments.
