Storyline:
Markus, a good-looking, likable and respected architect, is a paedophile. Bodies of little boys excite him. He suffers tremendously because of this inclination. He tortures himself for it and is disgusted by himself. Nevertheless, the arousal is there. And there is nothing he can do about it. He struggles the most when he is about to become sexual with a boy for the first time. That is when he senses that he will not be able to keep his desire under control for much longer. He is getting more and more isolated. Markus struggles to resist the ever-rising calls in his head to finally ‘do more’ with a boy.

A big difference to the human predators, which is often the subject of abuse: Markus does not want to be a perpetrator. He doesn’t talk his inclination nicely, doesn’t want it at all, even seeks help to get rid of it. Only he doesn’t make it. Because he can’t make it at all: The most shocking scene in head bursts is a conversation with a psychologist, who says Markus bluntly and clearly that there is no cure for pedophilia. There are at most mechanisms to deal with the situation, for example to be aware of dangers. Just like a former alcoholic who can choose not to use the bottle but doesn’t get rid of the inner urge as such.

I watched that movie! Thanks for the upload! it’s a film that I can digest, I was scared, because there are some films that force us, and it forces us to swallow the story,but this film has a very good content, and also shows us the reality of people who suffer with this problem, the uncontrolled attraction for children, here in a specific case, for boys…can watch without fear, I recommend.

i like this movie. a lot. and thank God max is the actor he is very convincing. but i just dont like the idea the writer/ director leads this movie of portraying a pedophile mentality, the only solution is, you know. i really just hope they did a different ending.
I saw Kopfplatzen (Head Burst) online, dubbed into Russian without subtitles, but understood enough to follow along. A happy film this is not, but it is very well made and recommended.
Markus (played by the excellent actor, Max Riemelt) is a truly tortured soul. He certainly does not fit the stereotype of a pedophile and he rightfully is sickened by this unwanted attraction he bears. Calm, cool and collected on the exterior, he is a mess on the inside and that is shown here with the sudden outbursts of tears and self-abuse (in private). To his credit, there is no evidence Markus has ever acted on his passions but that is tested when he befriends a new neighbor in his building and her young son who immediately starts to see him as a father figure.
In addition to Max Riemelt, the other actors are quite good here in their supporting roles. The story is well-written and the character development is as well. The subject matter is unpleasant though it is nice to see the lead in this movie as a truly tortured soul and not an intentionally evil pervert who gaslights his victims.
This is a dark movie – literally, there aren’t any sunny days in this film which is a nice touch to reflect what’s going in inside Markus. The scenes in the zoo when Markus visits the wolf are also nice symbolically.
Again, Kopfplatzen isn’t a happy movie but it is one that I recommend. Max Riemelt’s performance here is worthy of a best actor award.
