Storyline:

Juan, a young man convicted of terrorism, is given amnesty from a Lima prison; he boards a bus to return home and, in his mind’s eye, recalls events in his village near Huaraz when he was 10 or 12. His father is long dead, his mother lives with Fermin, secretly a sympathizer with the Communist guerrillas in the hills. Town leaders are assassinated at night. When Juan discovers Fermin’s secret, Juan is spirited away to the guerrillas to learn Marxist slogans and how to fight. When the band decides to attack the town to avenge the death of a comrade, Juan must choose. There are no white hats on any side: critical thought without love of life bears no fruit, writes Erich Fromm.

Storyline:

When an employee of Mumbai’s Chandan Nagar leaves, he is replaced by a youth, Fatka, who has a stray dog, Bhidu (a.k.a. Buddy). There is no accommodation provided for this homeless orphan, so he and his pet decide to make an abandoned antique car their new home. There is some resentment from the children of the building, but Fatka gets accepted in the cricket team after he demonstrates his bowling capabilities. A chance visit by a politician, Shashikant Bhide, results in enforcement of new municipal legislation to capture all stray dogs, and the children decide to oppose it. Their attempt to secure 31 signatures from residents turns out to be in vain, and they decide to launch a unique protest. Shashikant puts pressure on Chandan Nagar’s Secretary, Tandon, as well as launches his own campaign to enforce the legislation and ensure Bhidu’s capture.

Storyline:

Antoine Besson, Miriam’s divorced husband, is a nice man. In charge of security in a hospital, he is esteemed both by his superiors and his fellow colleagues. Moreover he is a good father who, willing to be closer to his eleven-year-old son Julien, has chosen to be transferred to the town where the boy lives with his mother and his older sister Joséphine, soon to be of age. That is the very reason why Antoine, the caring father, is asking for joint custody of Julien. Well, all that would be fine provided Antoine actually was the man he claims to be. The trouble is that his wife and his two children see him in a very different light. For in the past, Antoine was far from an angel. On the contrary, he had a knack for creating an atmosphere of permanent fear at home, going as far as to occasionally beat his wife under his children’s eyes. And he got away with it all the more easily as Miriam, wishing to avoid even more problems, never lodged a complaint against him – a fact that eventually turns against her. Which is why, despite the fact that Julien does not want to see his father any more, the family court judge complies with Antoine’s request.
