Storyline:

Today there seems to be a new Social Celebrity every time we go online. They have over 10,000 followers on Twitter and when they post a carefully posed shirtless shot on Instagram they have an army of followers giving it an enthusiastic thumbs-up. His handsome face and sculpted physique have helped pave the way to a charmed life – or at least that’s the only part he’ll ever reveal on his social network. But is this apparent need for constant online validation healthy or harmful? When we examine those we choose to ‘follow’ online, what does it reveal about us? Using a combination of archival video and photos from our studs in conjunction with new original interview and photo-shoot style footage we’ve created a layered look at this unique male mayhem.

Storyline:

In Sweden two investigators are working on identifying images of a child being raped by two men. In northern Romania a girl is being offered a job in Italy, but ends up as a sex slave. A Russian man is investing money in Cambodia. Parallel to his business venture he rapes one child after the other. Three girls move to the capital of South Sudan to look for a job. But the demand for sex has created an extensive market involving perpetrators such as ex-soldiers, aid workers and businessmen. While No One Is Watching takes us through the stories of the children, the police officers and the organizations fighting to stop commercial sexual exploitation of children.

Review:

Race d’Ep! caused scandal when it was released in France. The film was censored and classified as a pornographic film under the “X Law.” Roland Barthes, Gilles Deleuze, Felix Guattari, Marguerite Duras, Simone de Beauvoir, Patrice Chéreau, and Cahiers du Cinéma, among others, signed a petition in defense of the film and opposing its persecution and censorship by the government. Michel Foucault wrote a letter to the Ministry of Culture on behalf of Race d’Ep!, stating that “this documentary is based on historical research whose seriousness and interest I had the chance to prove,” going on to observe, “it seems strange for a film about homosexuality to be penalized when it tries to remember the persecutions of which the Nazi regime has been responsible.”
